where mahjong is
more than just a game
At The Mahjong House, we believe that Mahjong is more than just a game—it's about community, connection, and celebration. Whether you're gathering around a table with lifelong friends or meeting new ones, Mahjong offers a unique way to escape the everyday hustle and be truly present with those around you.
Our Story
The Mahjong House was founded by Stacey White, whose love for the game began six years ago when she joined a local Mahjong class because the bridge classes were full. She met a group of nine players back then, and they still gather every Thursday to this day. Together they celebrate not just wins on the board, but in life —marriages, graduations, new babies — and they support each other through the moments that tug at the heartstrings. During the pandemic, Mahjong became a lifeline, as Stacey and her group continued to play on Zoom every day, proving that the game can connect us even during challenging times.
In April 2023, after organizing a successful Mahjong tournament for Family Legacy in Houston, Stacey realized her passion for teaching others. With ten beginner tables eager to learn and thirty experienced players enjoying the day, she knew this was the beginning of something special. Since then, The Mahjong House has expanded beyond teaching, now offering its own line of tiles, mats, shufflers, racks, bags, and boxes, while also hosting leagues, school and community fundraisers, corporate events, birthday parties, and even kid camps.
Why Mahjong?
For us, Mahjong is more than a pastime.
It’s a way to show up for one another, to celebrate all of life’s victories, and to be there when the tough moments come. Your Mahjong group becomes an extended family, sharing laughter, tears, and everything in between.
At The Mahjong House, we’re dedicated to building this sense of community across Houston and beyond.
Meet Stacey
Originally from Michigan, Stacey has lived in several places, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Dallas, and Houston. Her love for games blossomed during summers at Agate Lake in Minnesota, and continued through family trips to Watercolor on 30a and Manchester by the Sea, where not having TV meant lots of game nights.
Today, she’s married to Andrew and is the proud mom of Emma Claire, Thompson, and Wells (too busy at college for the family photo!). Their three dogs—Izzie, Millie, and Charlie—are beloved members of the family, with Charlie becoming a favorite among Mahjong students, while Izzie and Millie are stars at the kid camps.
